The CIMAP(1) laboratory’s Materials and Laser Instrumentation (MIL) team has just made a major discovery in the field of lasers. Their secret: doping CaF2 fluorite, a very specific crystal, then cooling it with liquid nitrogen.
Emmanuel Garnier, associate professor at the University of Caen and member of the IUF - University Institute of France, will be an invited guest at the University of Cambridge from January to July 2012. He will be concentrating his research on the climatic, economic and social impact of volcanic eruptions, in partnership with Dr Clive Oppenheimer from the University of Cambridge.
The “JEM-Normandie 2014″ Public Interest Group’s board has confirmed the competition venues for the 8 official disciplines and 2 demonstration disciplines that will comprise the 2014 World Equestrian Games (WEG) to be held in Normandy. Éolane (2,300 employees, €270M turnover), specialised in professional electronics, has established its Caen-based Research & Development Unit in the EffiSciences science park in Colombelles. Its team of fifteen engineers, specialised in the design of digital electronic cards targeting, in particular, the telecommunication/multimedia and aeronautical markets, has joined the Innovaparc building within the science park.
