“Lending an ear to marine mammals”

7 05 2010

P7__SINAY_Yanis_Souami.jpgHow can we protect dolphins and other marine mammals ? Sinay, a young company created by Yanis Souami, offers solutions for the fishing, offshore oil exploration and offshore wind turbine construction industries.

The company conducts environmental impact studies on maritime activities, in particular the noise pollution they generate. Sinay’s flagship is a management support system capable of reducing risks. “An intelligent application that detects, identifies and locates sound emitted by marine mammals. It can be integrated within embedded systems (beacon, buoy, sonar…) in order to operate directly out at sea and to inform on the dangers generated by human presence,” explains the young creator behind the product, a graduate in halieutics (1). And it’s an innovation that won Sinay the regional Sustainable Development prize in 2006, together with the National Competition for Aid to Business Creation of Innovative Technologies in 2008. Sinay’s technological innovation offers businesses the opportunity to preserve marine mammals whilst developing their maritime activities. Hence, they improve their profitability whilst preserving marine species. Not forgetting their public image… After having benefited from coaching by Normandie Incubation, Sinay (backed by Oséo and the Lower Normandy Regional Council) has decided to dive in at the deep end by setting up in the Norlanda nautical enterprise zone, initiated by Synergia.
