Apprentice today, engineer tomorrow

7 05 2009

P9_ouverture.jpgFor a few years now, apprentices have been offered access to higher education. ENSICAEN was among the first to show the way with its monetics courses. And at the start of the next academic year, the Material Mechanics and Engineering course will also be available through apprenticeship.

Studying to become a monetics and systems security computer engineer through apprenticeship is now possible. And since 2004, ENSICAEN has been welcoming constant numbers. “These courses are recommended by public authorities,” highlights Guillaume Boitier, manager of ENSICAEN’s Industrial Relations Department. However, not all engineering schools actually propose them: only 54 of a total of 154 institutions have apprenticeship-based courses.
“At Ensicaen, it all started with a request from the school’s monetics partners club. Traditional courses were not producing a sufficient number of young graduates to satisfy the industry’s needs. This new approach was warmly welcomed by our partners,” he recalls. With 40 available places, the school receives abundant applications. And after three years of paid training, along with real work experience, student-apprentices leave the school with the same diploma as their fellow students, since its certification by the CTI (Engineering Titles Commission).
For the 2009 academic year, ENSICAEN will be launching a new engineering course, “Mécanique et Génie des Matériaux” (Material Mechanics and Engineering), again through apprenticeship (in partnership with the CFA PESBN - see article below). The CTI’s approval was confirmed last July. “The course will be organised in partnership with the CIRIAM (Industrial Park for Research and Innovation Applied to Materials) located in Flers, alongside the Faurecia site,” explains Guillaume Boitier. For future candidates’ information, the recruitment campaign is now open (consult the school’s website at the address provided below).
