Anniversary : GANIL celebrates its 25th anniversary
12 12 2008On the 6th and 7th of November, the National Heavy Ion Accelerator in Caen (GANIL / CEA / DSM-IN2P3/CNRS) celebrated 25 years of research and discovery.
This major facility, dedicated to exploring the subatomic world, is among the world’s five leading nuclear physics research laboratories. On this occasion, an international symposium was organised, presenting the different changes the facility has undergone since its creation, its significance in international research, the major scientific results it has generated over the last ten years and its research prospects from now to 2015. Towards the end of the symposium, Ganil’s future was discussed, with the Sprial2 project, a continuation of Spiral, heralding the construction of a new generation European facility, EURISOL (European Isotope Separation On-Line Radioactive Ion Beam Facility).
