Saphyn: A semi-public company for hadrontherapy
15 12 2009
The creation of the SEM (semi public company) Saphyn on the 12th of October, marked a decisive step in the creation of a European hadrontherapy research and development centre in Caen.
The aim of this new structure is to develop nuclear physics applications in the field of health care, in particular hadrontherapy, a new form of radiotherapy which is both more accurate and more efficient for treating certain cancers.
The Lower Normandy Regional Council is Saphyn’s majority shareholder, alongside the three departmental councils, Caen la Mer, the Association Archade, all of the region’s chambers of commerce and industry together with the regional chamber, private companies and a bank.
